How can I get connected?

City Bible attenders focus on making others feel welcome at their church. They have invited their friends, co-workers, neighbors, and even strangers they've met at the coffee shop! So, how do you get connected in a new church?

There are two ways someone can deal with this:

  1. Reach out to others, just as City Bible attenders have.
When you enter the church, look for people who look nervous or even lost. Extend your hand and welcome them. Help them find a classroom or the restrooms. Sit by someone who is sitting alone. Smile and say hello to a face you don't recognize. Never wait for someone to be friendly to you. You go after people who look like they need a friend. In that way, you will continue the tradition of genuine, warm hospitality that has made City Bible what it is today. It takes everyone helping and participating.
  2. Participate in a Community Group or Bible Study
With so many community groups to choose from, you're bound to find one that meets your needs and accomodates your schedule. We don't ask you to be out every night of the week. We just ask that you participate in one service on Sunday, and one community group or Bible Study per week. By involving yourself in a community group or Bible study, you will develop long lasting friendships with others in your group. You'll find a number of people who will care for you and whom you can care for. People will notice when you're down and rejoice with you in your victories. Community groups are crucial to the health of a church, and we want you to get involved.

Getting connected takes a lot of effort. It's not something the church can simply do for you.  You have to be an active participant! By applying the two principles above, you'll find that you never feel lost at church again. And that's a good feeling.

Do the pastors preach topically or verse-by-verse?

You're going to get tired of hearing this . . . but at City Bible it's all about THE BIBLE. Period. So to answer your question, the pastors occasionally preach topical sermons, but they do it verse-by-verse. Most of the time, they preach through a book of the Bible verse-by-verse.  What you will get is a fresh look at a passage.

Our prayer is that you will hear the word of God, study the Bible on your own, and watch God's Spirit empower you to live a life of impact and influence as you grow in your love for Him!!

How do I submit a prayer request

A prayer request can be submitted in one of the following manners:

  • Our Sunday bulletin has a tear-off section which includes a place for prayer requests.  All you have to do is fill it out and drop it into the offering bag or drop it off at the Welcome Desk in the church foyer.
  • At the bottom of each of our web pages, you will see a little "Contact Us" button. Click on that button, and you'll get a simple form to submit. That form will go to our central office where your prayer request will be delivered.

What about giving online?

All you have to do is click here to give back to the Lord from the privacy of your own home. It's our online giving feature.

All you will have to do is click on a special link  and you will be taken to the CBC. account page. Follow the directions to set up your account with your preferences. The form is picky about information being submitted "just so", so be careful not to insert a "$" in front of your amount (they already did that), and use a XXX-XXX-XXXX format for your telephone number.

You will also need a check from your account in front of you. You will use the "E-check" system by which you remove money from your checking account.  (Currently we are not set up to do credit or debit cards online, but may consider this in the near future.)

You can choose to make a one-time gift or have a weekly or monthly deduction automatically taken from your account. This option is similar to "bill-pay" online. If you still prefer giving on Sunday mornings during the offering, we are so appreciative of that too. Always looking for ways to make your life more simple...

How do I become a follower of Jesus?

Is it possible to know that when you die, you will go to heaven? The Bible says yes, you can know for sure. The key is to follow what the Bible says, not what makes good sense to us or seems right in our own minds (Proverbs 14:12 says "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.").

So let's look at the book of John. As John writes, his goal is to show us how to obtain eternal life - by believing, trusting, and following Jesus as God's Son! We recommend reading this book through and coming to your own conclusion.

As you read you pay special attention to the following verses. They tell you how to obtain eternal life.

John 1:12: "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God"

Believing in Jesus' name simply means believing his claims about his own identity. Jesus claimed to be equal with God the Father. Do you believe that Jesus is God? If you believe Jesus, then you are one of God's children.

Perhaps the most famous verse of all time is John 3:16. It says 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

So what does it mean to "believe in him?" Fortunately Jesus answers that question for us in John 11:25-27. In discussing her brother's death Jesus told a woman named Martha:

25 ..." I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" 27 "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

If you compare Jesus' statement and question with Martha's affirmation, you'll discover what it means to "believe in him." Jesus claimed that he gives life and raises us from the dead. When he asked Martha if she believed his claim she answered "Yes!" She then said she believed Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God.

This means that believing Jesus is the Son of God is equivalent to believing he is the one who gives us life and raises us from the dead. This is the content or kind of faith that obtains eternal life! The belief that obtains eternal life is very specific - it is the belief that Jesus is the Son of God who gives us life and raises us from the dead.

Keep this in mind as we return back to fourth chapter.

John 4:10: "Jesus answered her, 'If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.'" Jesus is the living water. When we try to live life on our own without him, we never find that true, lasting satisfaction. Something is missing. That something is him. When we acknowledge Jesus for who he is, we find that missing puzzle piece in our lives. Our thirst for peace is quenched. Our fears are dismissed. Jesus offers all of this and more to us.

John 5:24: "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."
Did you read that? What more can we say?!

John 6:47:"I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life."

Believes what? Well, just what we've been talking about here. Believes in Jesus. Believes that he is God in the flesh. Believes that he provided the sacrifice for our sins and that he is the only way to heaven.

Lots of folks try to make it complicated, but it's really pretty simple. God gives eternal life to everyone who wants it. All you have to do is believe that Jesus is the Son of God who gives it and decide to trust and follow Him!

So the big question is: What do you believe about Jesus?

Read through the book of John, and as you do, continue to ask yourself this question: Does what Jesus say and what he does support his claim to be God? If you answer yes, then you need to believe, trust, and follow Him as Lord and Leader to receive that eternal life. It's as simple as that.
