On March 9, 1969 the first meeting to discuss the organization of a Conservative Baptist Church in Bullhead City was held. The first meetings were held at the Shriner's Building and a minister was flown over from Phoenix for the first few months by a group called "Wings For Christ". In July of 1969 Ken Evins became our first pastor of Riviera Baptist Church and preached his first sermon on August 1, 1969. The next step was to build a church. Our prayers were answered when the lot on the corner of Marina Blvd. and Catalina Drive was generously donated by several families of the church. Two other lots were purchased for additional space, and in April 1971 a 40' X 100 ' sanctuary was built. As the ministry grew, so did the need to build a new sanctuary. On October 20, 1996 the dedication service for our new sanctuary was held. On August 22, 2010, members of Riviera Baptist Church began a new chapter in their 40 year history by overwhelmingly voting to change their name to City Bible Church. The church believes that the name change best reflects their identity as a church that desires to be a “city within a city” that is striving to reveal and reflect Jesus Christ while loving and serving the tri-city area. On November 29, 2010 City Bible Church became affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). The EFCA is an association that best reflects our Biblical values and beliefs while providing an opportunity to partner together in the ministry and the mission that God has given the local church. In the past six years, we have watched as the Lord has been working to bring people into a vibrant and growing relationship with Him. The Lord has grown City Bible Church not only numerically, but in the opportunities to make a difference in the Bullhead City Community through such ministries as the annual "Saturday of Service", adopting a local elementary school, providing scholarships for children to participate in the Boys and Girls Club Summer Program, and an Emergency Assistance Window to meet the pressing and practical needs of the community. The church has been blessed to be a part of what God is doing to bring life change and transformation as we create environments where people at every age and stage of life can explore faith, grow in faith, and experience genuine and authentic community. This growth has created an opportunity to expand our facilities in a way that will enable us to continue to love and serve our community in an effective way to meet the needs of our community. We look forward to all that God has planned for our church as we enter into a new chapter to create additional space that will enable us to continue to engage in the kingdom mission that we have been given by Jesus. We look forward to the day that people we do not even know yet will say "Thank you" for introducing me to Jesus, as we continue to be the vehicle that He uses to reveal Himself in the community!!
Our Ministry Campaign
"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21 NASB)
As we feel the Lord leading us to create space where the city can encounter Jesus through a new Family Life Center, we have initiated a Capital Campaign to reach that goal. This campaign has sought to align and unite us toward a common goal. We have prayed for vision, wisdom, and the grace to bring unity in our ongoing efforts to reveal and reflect Christ as we love and serve the city. We have asked the Lord to prepare us to sacrifice equally toward the goal of raising the resources to build a new Family Life Center. First, we must unite behind the common mission that we have been given as a church. Then, Lord willing, we will joyfully embrace giving generously from the resources God has entrusted to us. Sacrifice involves faith. Equal sacrifice means we will all be exercising faith.
Careful evaluation of the potential costs of building a new Family Life Center, together with a realistic assessment of our CBC family, has led to the establishment of a faith goal. The purpose of a faith goal is to involve faith in our giving. To meet this goal we will need to give beyond what is easy or comfortable and trust the Lord with our personal resources. Our faith goal is 2 million dollars. This amount will enable us to proceed with building a new Family Life Center without incurring financial debt.
